For self-managed NDIS plans, the NDIS Assistive Technology Team classify the thermostatic shower as a Category 3 Item, therefore requiring OT’s to initially apply to the National Disability Insurance Agency first, then upon approval the AT would be accessed via the NDIS plan. Agency managed plans would need to ensure that their organisation has the relevant Registration Grounds to provide AT, these include Registration Group: Home Modifications Line Items-Home Modifications- Bathroom Mod-Minimal Structural Work and Assist Prod-Pers Care/Safety-Personal Care and Safety Equipment-Other

The NDIS has released a Guidance for Builders and Designers document, designed to provide clarity for builders, designers, assessors and any other associated stakeholders involved in the planning, decision making and delivery of Complex Home Modifications for NDIS participants.

The document provides guidance around:
• The criteria the NDIS considers to be ‘reasonable and necessary’ for complex home modifications in a participant plan.
• The typical scope of works for NDIS complex home modifications.
• Elements that may exceed the reasonable and necessary criteria for NDIS funding

How do I obtain a quotation to submit for approval for my self-managed plan?

Any of our Suppliers will be able to provide you with a Product Retail Price quotation for this Assistive Technology. If you do encounter any difficulties, then please call Sarah on 0439 992 011 and she will do her utmost to help you.

There is also an option we recommend of asking your Licenced Plumber that you have chosen to do the works to provide you with a Supply and Install quotation. They may need to make you aware that they will include pricing for a Pressure Reducing Valve to be fitted to your property if the water pressure is found to be too high on initial checking. Most properties do not require this; however, it should only be applied if required.

How do I as an OT assessor obtain a quotation to submit to NDIS for approval?

As the Therm-Oz thermostatic shower is currently classed as a Category 3 item (please see NDIS note above) then an assessment as per current NDIS guidelines will be required.

What can be done if I know my client/or relative would benefit from this system but has a flick mixer installed, not a two-tap system?

Single lever flick mixers can be replaced by using the New Build Packs which include a fixing bracket. These are the same Packs that are used if your bathroom is being reconfigured and new pipe work is being used. It involves more stages of work than replacing a two-tap system with the Therm-Oz thermostatic shower and therefore costs associated will be higher than a Reno but it can be done. We ourselves had ours replaced nice and easily. Check out the video.
